Job Description

Have you enjoyed working at a summer school before and feel ready for a more senior position? Maybe you’ve had experience leading teams of people before and want to try something exciting this summer.

Our Senior Activity Leaders are well organised, natural leaders. You’ll be professional, calm under pressure and enjoy supporting others, as you help to deliver our high-quality summer activity programme to our students.

What does it involve?

Every year, from late June to mid-August, we welcome over 6000 young students (aged 8-17) from different parts of the world to one of our seven centres. Our aim is to provide them with a fun and educational holiday experience, which includes English language classes and engaging activities and excursions. And that's where you come in!

We look for enthusiastic and energetic professionals to support our Activity Leader Team, who in-turn provide our students with a wide range of activities and excursions. Activities range from sporting, drama, arts to quizzes, discos, fashion shows; the list goes on. Excursions involve leading groups to theme parks, city tours, historical sites etc.

For the senior role, you must have experience of working in a summer school setting or similar.

Locations: Bournemouth, Canterbury, Cambridge, Central London, Uxbridge, Northampton, and Oakham (famous for the Michael Owen Red Stars football school) to choose from.

Contracts:  You can choose your contract of 2-6 weeks between late-June to mid-August. You must be available within at least 2 weeks in July, as this is our busy period. We can support you with food and accommodation if you’d like to try a residential contract.

What’s in it for you as a Senior Activity Leader?

  • It’s an opportunity for leadership experiences, while you earn over the summer holidays

  • A great opportunity if you are pursuing a career in working with young people, in education, sports, or drama. We provide appraisals and training, ideal for your continuous professional development

  • Lots of support from centre and head office management

  • Accommodation + food included if you are residential

  • You are welcomed and supported with a full induction and training

  • Earn while gaining experience in supporting young people in a multi-cultural environment

  • Lots of our Senior Activity Leaders return during the following summers, which gives them the option to progress even further within our Study Holiday programmes as an Activities Manager

  • Opportunities to gain teaching qualifications at the end of your contract.

Pay & Hours:

  • Working 48 hours per week over a 6-day week. This is a fully immersive working experience
  • Pay:  £594.88 per week plus holiday entitlement - accommodation is included if required

Some of what you'll be doing as a Senior Activity Leader:

  • Working closely with the Activities Manager, you will be supporting and the team of Activity Leaders. This includes supervising and briefing them on their duties, procedures and any risk assessments involved in the activity session or excursion.

  • Encouraging and supporting students to take-part in fun activities or events, while maintaining accurate registers and reporting feedback to Activities Managers

  • Carry out mealtime and free-time supervision; with some ‘lights-out’ duties (if residential)

  • Caring for the health, safety, and wellbeing of our Activity Leaders and students
